Profile

Sue Torres first made a name for herself at Rocking Horse in Chelsea, and she must have missed the old neighborhood, since she's back there with a nouvelle-Mexican restaurant of her own. This one features organic-agave tequilas, a designated tortilla cook working a display comal, and dishes like lobster-corn fritters with chipotle cream sauce and chicken-and-squash-blossom enchiladas.

After a non-threatening complaint that my pork tacos were inedibly spicy (and should be removed from the bill), the chef marched over to my table to berate me and remind me that I should have taken the waiter's suggestion to drown the food in sour cream. Not ideal. Skip this place - lots of better Mexican in this town, thankfully.

Tacos for thirty five dollars?!!! Tacos are not the food for Kings and Queens but Sue Torres sure charges that way. There are simply too many good restaurants in NYC to throw your money away on this place. I paid nearly thirteen dollars for a cocktail and dinner came to over a hundred, at a Mexican restaurant. It would be one thing if the food was not what you would see on the streets of Mexico but it is - if you are in the Chelsea area and want Mexican go to Rosa Mexicana.
