Although Sugar Beets has mostly been a Thai delivery and take-out spot, the sibling owners of this South Williamsburg eatery have created an inviting atmosphere for dining in as well. High ceilings give way to a semi-private upstairs, while fabric panels hang above the main dining room to give it some coziness. Orange cushions accent dark-wood benches and chairs beneath white tablecloth covered tables. Chicken curry puffs are reminiscent of empanadas, with their fried dough seal; hot pot dumplings are tasty when they're not too mushy and difficult to eat. Entrees shine brighter, with well-plated basics like pad Thai or drunken noodles. Though the flavor is there, make sure to request extra spice if you want any heat in the large-portioned curries. Thai style barbecue beef comes with three thinly pounded steaks on sautéed vegetables. The recommendations menu branches out with more seafood options, including many salmon, shrimp and red snapper options, as well as different preparations on their delicious crispy duck. For dessert, fried ice cream comes covered in raspberry sauce or there’s a solid fried cheesecake, too.
Recommended DishesCurry puffs, $6; crispy duck drunken noodle, $12
