Tabare puts an organic twist on Uruguayan fare with locally-farmed chicken and grass-fed beef. Recycled wood panels cover the walls, while concrete tables are juxtaposed with quilted banquette seating. Starter empanadas come two to an order, with a Spanish Tuna and black olive option, or a cheesy gruyere and fontina mix with caramelized onions. For a larger group, ten-or-so chorizo balls come covered in sautéed onions. The steaks are expertly cooked and seasoned for strong flavor in both the filet mignon sandwich (stacked with bacon, mozzarella, onions, green olives, tomato, lettuce and a fried egg) as well as the churrasco skirt steak, served over a thinly sliced potato galette with parsley, garlic, oil and vinegar chimichurri sauce. Handmade gnocchi and ravioli offerings vary daily. A pair of layered crisp cookie sticks with dulce de leche and fresh berries makes for a light finish, or try the decadent flourless chocolate cake.Recommended Dishes
