Profile

Tacos Morelos has perfected authentic tacos and quick Mexican fare in its trucks in Williamsburg and the East Village and in its Jackson Heights shop. There’s more than just tacos at the brand’s first ten-seat and brick-and-mortar location on Ninth Street, though it’d be a sin not to enjoy at least one barbacoa taco on a visit. Breakfast dishes like huevos rancheros and huevos con chorizo are served all day, and pork ribs pipian verde—served with rice and beans—are sweet and spicy and rich in flavor. The platter-size burritos are stuffed with Oaxaca cheese, beans, rice, and tomatoes and dressed heavily with sour cream. They’ll sit in your belly for hours, but it’s worth it. Go for the burrito with spicy pulled chicken, which is under $9. This is a good go-to place for hard-to-find-in-Manhattan dishes like spicy goat soup and adobo chicken too. Just don’t expect any frills: There are no bathrooms, and you’ll sit on heavy wooden benches if you decide to stay.
