Tartinery's menu may be a one-trick pony, but its space is as versatile as they come. With industrial-chic decor and a sizable tree growing on the lower level, it makes for a welcome respite from the heat; and with its massive fireplace, it can be just the spot to cozy up from the cold. It can be romantic or just a great place to catch up with friends, or to grab a snack and a glass of wine while reading the Sunday paper. Add to this a friendly staff happy to help you choose among a litany of tartines and pair them with the perfect wine, and Tartinery is a real neighborhood gem. As a rule, the more decadent-sounding the tartine, the better--especially recommended are the Foie Gras, Croittin, and Rosbif--and before you order a salad, note that a house version comes free with your tartines. More sober meals can be accompanied by a range of freshly squeezed juices and smoothies. For dessert, if you're not all tartined out, try the Nutella banana concoction. Numbered two-tops on the lower level allow you to memorize your favorite seats for the next visit.
