This deep West Village restaurant, with its bare-bones interior and a cocktail list that’s fitting for Jane Street, presents itself as a nexus between French, Asian, and Latin cuisine. Its chefs originally hail from Monterrey, Mexico, but they make it a point to incorporate intercontinental flavors at a crossroads. Like the magret Peking duck, which, in addition to a lobster bisque, somehow features foie gras and a pomegranate reduction. Or the baby-corn-fries appetizer, which is made of deliciously fried mini-skewers of maize, offered with a chile de arbol aïoli. While some of the combinations seem tantalizing in type like the Cuban lasagna, with its dry adobo pulled pork and lackluster stuffing they disappoint upon delivery, leaving you with the thought that some classics should be left alone. But standout plates like the chorizo shumai and the devil corn chow fun say otherwise.
