Terrace Bagels, a Windsor Terrace fixture long before gentrification, knows where its bagel is buttered. With bagels classic and nouveau—whole wheat and low-carb—Terrace Bagels has been sustaining locals for a generation. Lately, though, even fans from Manhattan and points east stop by to stock up on hand-rolled, chewy-crust, old-fashioned boiled-then-baked bagels. The little café has fifteen small tables, and a counter in the back for placing orders. Breakfast is served all day, with homemade muffins, turnovers, and croissants, Belgian waffles the size of dinner plates, as well as 18 specials, beginning with two eggs any style and add-ons including bacon, asparagus and grilled chicken. Homemade soups, freshly tossed salads big enough to share, and overstuffed sandwiches (on a bagel, hard roll, or hero bread) round out the menu, but the phenomenal bagels, with the extra treat of lox, remain the café’s prime draw. Excellent espresso drinks balance out the generally weak, institutional coffee.
ExtraTerrace Bagels' retail outlet next door offers full-service catering, with a strong Italian accent.
