Despite ostensibly luxurious touches, the impression of sophistication that Terrace in the Sky wishes to exude is not convincing. Gilded chairs, oriental rugs, and a harp merely give the place the look of a dressed up function room. The menu, which tries so hard to emulate opulence merely overreaches. Entrees like venison are showy, befitting an 18th-century banquet more so than an uptown Manhattan restaurant. The most lavish aspect of Terrace in the Sky is the wrap-around view from the 16th floor of the handsome pre-war building, which seems to be the main draw—and considering other elements here, it should be.
