Profile
Despite ostensibly luxurious touches, the impression of sophistication that Terrace in the Sky wishes to exude is not convincing. Gilded chairs, oriental rugs, and a harp merely give the place the look of a dressed up function room. The menu, which tries so hard to emulate opulence merely overreaches with at least two different types of foie gras listed among the appetizers. Entrees, including venison, are equally showy, befitting an 18th-century banquet more so than an uptown Manhattan restaurant. The most lavish aspect of Terrace in the Sky is the wrap-around view from the 16th floor of the handsome pre-war building, which seems to the main draw—and considering other elements here, it should be.
