Anchoring a strip mall less than a mile from JFK, the Door pumps out live reggae on Saturdays, all-you-can-eat brunch on Sundays, and cheap Jamaican food seven days a week. Soft, sweet corn bread and slow-cooked soups (chicken and vegetable or fish with fresh thyme) are soulful starters, and regulars swear by sweet plantains, oxtail stew (with tomato, garlic, Tabasco, and allspice), and curried goat. If you think you don't like goat, try the Door's version before you decide: It's simmered to tender and slathered in a mustard-heavy curry paste that plays on the meat's strong flavor without muting it. If the recessed lights, tropical murals, and white tablecloths don't relax you, the Caribbean hospitality (and your tiny tab) might.
