This Upper West Side bar/restaurant peddles solid gastropub fare that’s satisfying, familiar, and affordable. Start the night unwinding with a beer or seasonal cocktail (sangrias in summer, Irish coffees in winter), and order the crunchy-yet-melting cod fish and chips. Or choose one of the burgers—even the beet and quinoa salad—instead. The hearty bison burger comes topped with vanilla caramelized onions and gorgonzola, and you'll see lots of them going around the restaurant. The menu, a mash-up of classic British and American bar food, is enjoyable. "You've got to find some way of saying it without saying it," reads a Duke (as in Ellington) quote on the wall, and the space communicates an unassuming warmth through its wooden chairs and "country kitchen" paneling. Expect intramural teams laughing at the bar, families and couples leaning in over sausage and mash, and an all-around homey feeling throughout.
