The smiling cartoon-cow sign hanging from this cheery corner spot telegraphs this Argentinean restaurant’s forte: perfectly cooked steaks. Flying Cow opened in early 2009 without much buzz, but its candlelit interior, ample sidewalk seating, and cheap slabs of meat have attracted a growing number of young neighborhood regulars. A 16-ounce strip cut served with chimichurri sauce comes with a mountain of delectably salt-blasted shoestring fries. Poultry and seafood are equally well-prepared; four plump scallops are nestled in mound of buttery mashed potatoes and draped with asparagus spears. Sweet offerings are refreshingly light, like the fresh-fruit ceviche.

Recommended Dishes

Shitake crostini, $4; grilled sweetbreads with eggplant and adzuki beans, $6; 16 oz. strip steak with mashed potatoes or fries, $20; scallops with mashed potatoes and spring asparagus, $20
