Profile

This charming and secluded lakeside restaurant—designed in 1933 by the Tavern on the Green team—echoes a cozy ski lodge, with vaulted arch ceilings, rustic cabin chandeliers, and toasty fireplaces. The Staten Island favorite has a little for everyone: Champagne Sunday brunches, lakeside lunches, weeknight early bird specials, weekend jazz, and even rowboat rentals in warmer months. Eclectic continental starters range from tender veal shank osso bucco ravioli--wrapped in fresh pasta and mired in a salty sauce--to savory duck crepes, the thin delicate shell no match for the thick, heavy duck in garlicky truffle oil. A lightly charred mesquite-flavored strip steak is topped with crisp julienned onions, while a citrus-adorned, thick, juicy salmon is served with a balsamic reduction. The nine savory desserts, including the chocolaty Prada and an inventive a mango raspberry tartufo with white chocolate ganache, add the right finishing touch to this romantic venue.
