Located in the Westin, half of this midtown east restaurant aspires to be an after-hours lounge, while the remainder of the room offers cafeteria-style seating. A D.J. stands between the two, as if trying to mix them together. Hotel patrons make for an equally clashing mix of tourists and business travelers. But despite the strange scene, LCL: Bar and Kitchen epitomizes risk-free dining; the menu items are standard yet reliable. You can choose an American staple, such as the LCL LaFrieda Burger and a grilled-cheese sandwich, or a few seafood options like steamed mussels and salmon over quinoa. The lump crab cakes, available as a starter, are fresh and flavorful, and the chicken potpie is a lighter reinvention of the classic dish. Finish with a kid’s-menu-inspired dessert, like the Chunky Chocolate Cookie, or test your decision-making skills with the obsessively extensive liquor menu, categorized by “Sustainable,” “Organic,” “Biodynamic,” and “Local” designations.
