Founded as a bakery, the Local Store has grown into a full restaurant–wine bar with exceptional small plates. A good majority of the menu items (from meat to cheese to beer) follow the whole-grain locavore model. The dining area consists of a mirrored, low-lit niche with a wraparound banquette and a bar–coffee counter (complete with pastry case) leading into a lively kitchen. Offerings rotate with the seasons, but there’s always a selection of impeccably presented meats and cheeses, like a recent triple-pork stack combining liverwurst, lean sopressata, and deviled ham spiked with a miniature pickle. Larger plates are clean and well balanced: standouts include a thick tomato-mushroom frittata with asiago and zucchini blossoms lightly crisped and stuffed with a smooth ricotta paste.
Recommended DishesCured meats w/ house pickled vegetables, $15.
