Profile

A major renovation in 2003 gave the circa 1971, clapboard Roadhouse a spiffed up look, in and out; four stone-façade wood-burning fireplaces in the duo of dining rooms, and a sweeping second floor for private parties. The food, from long-time owners the D’Andrea family, remains the same, which seems to suit its Sunnyside nabe just fine. The place has long been famous for the clam pie (and, in more recent years, frequent visits from Staten Island’s borough president), a mild-flavored, golden-crusted, generously mollusk-strewn treat. Also popular are the supple, golf ball-size meatballs, made with pork, beef, and fresh parsley, and demurely perched in a shallow smattering of marinara. Around the mahogany-accented dining room with pretty Venetian plaster walls hang old photos of the Roadhouse in its former incarnation, and while some might miss the dated appearance of the old digs, the home-style Italian cooking will soothe the most homesick of stomachs.
