The Rookery is a modern British pub with a West Indian–influenced menu, all packed into an industrial warehouse space. The horseshoe bar acts as its centerpiece, and the decor is accented by blues and greens and a floral-papered wall. Owner Jamie Schmitz’s British heritage is evident in the Scotch cocktails and Pimm’s cup, as well as the delicious Scotch egg, wrapped in sausage and a panko breading. Bland shepherd’s pie gets a needed kick from the infused curried goat and the oxtail ragu – it’s like a spicy sloppy Joe. While the samosa burger is overwhelmingly starchy, the smaller bar snacks are all excellent: rich mac ‘n’ cheese, flavorful Brussels sprouts with optional rashers (bacon), and thick potato-wedge “chips.” Things pick up at night, when neighborhood residents gather to enjoy beer and a D.J.
