Profile

This venue is closed.

Located past the entrance and up the staircase of Maloney & Porcelli's midtown meat haus, this pop-up fifties luncheonette operates during weekdays out of the third-floor Skylight Room, a wood-floored expanse typically used for private events. With its red-and-white tablecloths, blown-up stock photography, and retro soundtrack, the kitschy decor does start to feel like a theme party by meal's end, but it’s still pleasant in here. Salads and "throwback sandwiches" dominate the two-page menu, while classic chopped steaks inadvertently cater to the modern-day carb-averse: big burger, no bun. There are milkshakes (with booze, if you choose), and you can also get a sugar fix from the restaurant's scoop-able jars of candy, a tastier alternative to the syrupy homemade sodas. While the dishes here may not be anything to write grandpa about, the wholesome style and friendly vibe make it almost impossible to leave this makeshift soda shop without a smile.
