Profile

Plush new digs up the street from their original location give Marco Moreira and Jo-Ann Makovitzky 35 extra seats, a glass-walled mezzanine for private parties, and a lounge where guests can sip house cocktails and nibble dainty hors d'oeuvre. The menu's refined French-American slant remains the same, if not the actual dishes, which range from caviar-speckled oyster chowder to suckling pig with farofa.

The ambiance was elegant but stuffy, and the clientele old (we are in our early 20s). I felt we were treated differently throughout the night due to racial or age prejudice (my boyfriend is black). - The guy who serves drinks didn't bother asking if we wanted to see the winelist and took away our wine glasses. - Same guy gave us the menu and didn't explain anything. To the other guests, he properly explained the Green Market and Tasting Menus. - Our main course plates were cleared as I was still chewing on my food. - It said "California sea urchin" for the carbonara. Only after I ordered it and asked about the sea urchin, he was like oh, our sea urchin tonight is from Maine... Truth in menu laws! The Sea Urchin angel hair was delicious (slightly too rich) but my braised veal tongue with wheat faro was alright. I didn't like the celery leaves as garnish and I was expecting my braise to be warm. There were a few over salted clumps but the wheat faro was delicious. The scallops and foie gras, and Maine lobster wrapped with salted pork belly were excellent. Fresh, quality ingredients.

I went to Toqueville for a family celebration. I had heard the food was good, but unfortunately we didn't get to try it. We came in, sat down, 30 minutes later they took our drink order. After an hour and 15 minutes, they still had yet to take our order, even though we asked for our server and the manager several times. We got up and left. The service was the worst I've ever experienced. They were rude, bitchy, and they should be out of a job. Plus, on our way out, the food didn't look so good anyway. Only go there if you want some attitude and aren't planning on eating.
