Profile

The somewhat tacky façade makes entering Tomo a pleasant surprise, with its attractive, dimly-lit dining room, dark wood tables, and leather seating. An uneven woodblock wall serves as an interesting accent while the ceiling-length windows in front shed light on the sushi bar. For starters, age tofu is thinly breaded and well-fried, and the tasty shrimp tempura are long and tender, with a flakier batter than that of the vegetable tempura. Sushi appetizers vary from octopus selections to creative roll combinations like the Dynamite (kani crab, scallop, avocado, mushroom, caviar, and spicy mayo) and Pizza (spicy tuna, avocado, caviar, and crunchy flakes). Sushi and sashimi combos for one or two people are a great way to sample the selection, with assorted sushi, sashimi, and a spicy tuna roll. Large-portioned entrees include standards like chicken teriyaki and traditional tonkatsu, breaded pork patties atop white rice with a delicious sauce. Among the rich desserts is one made with tempura ice cream and a fried banana.
