The tall, windowless room here has a chameleon-like quality, which makes it equally pleasant for a starchy business lunch, clubby late-night dining, or an early-morning breakfast. Chef Geoffrey Zakarian’s flashy, seemingly effortless cooking achieves a similar effect. Our perfect day might begin with a wheel of lobster hash for brunch (or, if we’re feeling reckless, coddled eggs with crisped short ribs), lobster bisque and a bite of crisped skate wing for lunch, and for dinner the chef’s signature escargot risotto. — Adam Platt
Wanting nothing more than to partake in restaurant week, my wife and I went to Town thinking we'd be able to get some high quality food at a bargain price. I was slightly prepared for a watered down restaurant week menu, but not quite prepared when the bargain consisted of 6 menu items across 3 courses. We went with the standard menu. Appetizers were pretty good, risotto with escarot and black truffle was very good. The beef tartare was good, although the portion was so big it was a little sickening. For entree's the duck ravioli was very good, as was the steak, although nothing that knocked us out of our chairs or anything. The courses and drinks did take a long time to get to us, and by the end of the meal we were anxious to get out of there. Service was overall very courteous on the other hand, the waiters were knowledgable enough to suit our needs, and the restaurant atmosphere is absolutely beautiful. Overall I think Town is decent, but for the money you are going to spend there, you can definitely do better.
I went to Town last night---excited to try out a new spot---loving restaurant week---looking forward to a night with the girls unencumbered by gaggles of college-age interns. We had a 9:15 reservation, were on time and relaxing at the bar. 15 minutes passed, 30 minutes passed--we inquired---your table will be ready in 15 minutes or so (without apologies) they said every time we asked. Apparently our table was still occupied. 45 minutes later---we were finally seated. No complimentary snacks while my stomach consumed itself, no comped drinks---nothing to apologize for the endless waiting. The waitress was a doll and the food tasty---but i could barely enjoy it as I struggled to keep my eyelids open. A note to Town---if you are going to keep your guests waiting, at least keep them happy.
