Profile

This venue is closed.

Although 8 is a lucky number in a China, even three 8s in this restaurant’s name can’t save it from mediocrity—scarlet carpets, gaudy gold banisters, crystal chandeliers, and enough room for 200 notwithstanding. The space is located, unimpressively, in a mall directly under the approach to the Manhattan Bridge which makes it subject to subway trains rattling overhead every few minutes. The kitchen specializes in dim sum, the famous breakfast/lunch food of Hong Kong and China’s Guangdong province. While you’ll find the signature variety of dumplings, rice rolls, and meat-filled buns, some are improperly steamed; others verge on raw. Oddly, in the evenings, the restaurant switches to a mildly spicy Cantonese-style menu. Whenever you go, steer clear of the far-from-fresh fish and seafood floating in the fish tanks.
