Profile

While the name may elicit giggles, the food at Tropical Sensation is serious business. Under a fresco of frolicking colorful birds, a neighborhood crowd chows on heaping helpings of steak, pork, and seafood. A decent Caribbean paella comes in two sizes, but sized “for one,” it overflows with enough clams, crab, and lobster to challenge the most serious eater (or two). The lengthy drink list features tropical juices and shakes, including the Dominican specialty, Morir Soñando (to die dreaming), a slurp-worthy concoction of evaporated milk and orange juice. With daily lunch specials, Tropical Sensation is the Manhattan Valley destination for homey island fare at prices even your abuelita can appreciate.
