Profile

Despite the Trump Tower atrium’s 80-foot waterfall, the grub here evokes a dining hall of an ordinary dorm or blue-collar diner. That doesn’t stop tourists and businesspeople from packing the grand, brass-, marble-, and mirror-bedecked space. The café opened in 2003, when Christopher Devine, executive chef at Trump’s Westchester County country club, was tapped to revamp the decidedly downmarket fare. Devine’s menu features safe classics: Sandwiches, salads, pizzas and hot foods like Trump’s beloved-since-boyhood meatloaf (he’s said to order it once a week). Hot pastrami, a customer favorite, is paired with soggy fries; a small pizza oven pumps out pies reminiscent of grade-school hot lunch. The scale of the space is grand, but the eats are middling meat and potatoes, from a professed meat and potatoes guy.

Not All-You-Can-Eat

Originally known as the Trump Buffet, the café changed its name in 2006, because too many people were associating the space with the all-you-can-eat buffets in Trump’s casino.
