Uno’s may have introduced a fresh menu in 2005, but the chain still thrives on passable Italian-American standards at family-friendly prices. The restaurant’s claim to fame is its doughy, inch-thick, deep-dish pizza, which comes in largely artery-choking varieties. (The single exception is the Farmer’s Market, which comes with caramelized onions, feta, pesto, and grilled vegetables.) Yet there’s also a surprising number of healthier, slightly up-market choices such as nutty salads drizzled with fat-free dressing and platters of pasta and seafood. The crowd is similarly varied. An elderly couple relaxes by the floor-to-ceiling windows, a toddler peers over her booth at a gaggle of high schoolers, some 30-somethings grab an after-work drink at the bar. Fans, brick walls, and Tiffany-style lamps… You’ve seen it all before. Now you can see it again.
