Colombia-born Mike Jaramillo is a mini-tycoon in Williamsburg, where his holdings include Sweet Farm bakery and Maxim gym. He has opened Viñas as a South Side homage to his Latin American roots as well as those of his Puerto Rican chef, Henry Lopez Jr. Spanish and Latin American wines will be offered alongside Pan-Latin-inspired fare like quail a la plancha with a reduction of chipotle, espresso bean, and honey, and the 75-seat space is furnished with salvaged wood that’s meant to send the same eco-friendly message as the recycled takeout containers they’ll pack your leftovers in. — Robin Raisfeld and Rob Patronite

Closing for Renovations?!?

I just tried to make reservations and was told the place would be closed for renovations until Memorial Day... too bad.

The Southside is Looking (and Tasting) Even Better

Living just down the street, I had high hopes and, after three visits, have yet to come away disappointed. The lamb chops rank among the best I have had anywhere. And the pork chops come perilously close to Little Owl's holy grail adaptation. The service also hits a few high notes. While not exactly Meyeresque, Vinas's staff is friendly, attentive and, most unusual for Williamsburg, not in a hurry to see you pay your bill. And leave.
