Profile

It’s a well-dressed crowd at this Harlem spot for tapas and wine, with a dimly lit bar, black walls, and mini-murals of a rhinoceros and two nautili. Of course a restaurant called Vinateria has a notable wine selection, and the list is easy to navigate: It’s divided into “Light,” “Medium,” and “Full” designations. The Italian- and Spanish-inspired seasonal menu is similarly organized. Depending on market availability, a menu dated in April might yield the likes of tender, well-marinated octopus served over celery frisée salad, or, perhaps as an entrée, the “Medium” al dente tagliatelle with slow-cooked lamb ragu. You’ll have to ask your waiter what’s available for dessert: If you're lucky, it's light-chocolate cake with rum-infused whipped cream.

Recommended Dishes

Grilled octopus salad, $11; tagliatelle with lamb ragu, $16
