Vong's scarlet-and-gold-leaf décor would make a doozy of a setting for The King and I. If only you could get patrons to turn their attention away from Jean-Georges Vongerichten's stunning riffs on French-Thai cuisine. From the first taste of tamarind-dipped crab rolls and Thai lobster to the final bite of sorbets so full of sunshine you may need to apply sunblock, diners will run across flavors no classic French chef could identify, let alone serve. No musical fantasy could convince you that dining can be something more wonderful than this.
