Profile

This park-facing corner spot is a destination for both an eggy brunch or a decadent cocktails-and-oysters night. The sister restaurant to Walter Foods in Williamsburg, Walter’s has many looks: During the day the expansive windows let in a wealth of natural light; at night, tungsten bulbs bathe the wraparound bar and leather banquettes in a cozy, golden glow. Bow-tied servers and black-and-white photos of sports stars on one wall establish an old-school aesthetic—carried into the present by a globally eclectic menu. The steamed duck buns are plump but still light, and the watermelon salad punctuated with kalamata olives is a reliably refreshing starter. Standout entrées include the spicy fisherman’s stew (complete with crab, mussels, and shrimp in a shellfish broth), the pork chops with jalapeño grits, and a seven-ounce burger on brioche. Cap off the night with a well-executed cocktail befitting the new-old-timey theme, like the Hemingway Daiquiri, Gold Rush, or Scofflaw.

Recommended Dishes

Steamed duck buns, $11; watermelon salad, $12; garganelli, $19
