Profile

Packed lunches, jazz brunches, and steady late-night (well, for the Hamptons) dinner traffic make World Pie a local favorite. Easily recognizable from the red umbrellas stretching nearly to the toy shop on the corner, it offers the only true sidewalk dining in Bridgehampton, yet it’s the wood-burning oven, where the signature thin-crust pizzas are cooked, that draws the crowds to the former home of Bobby Van’s. At night the atmosphere is dominated by a slightly rambunctious bar crowd, but during the day the banquettes and tables around the bar as well as the sunroom dining area can be full of families and the occasional odd celeb like Alan Alda. Though World Pie takes its name from the pizza it serves (an entire page on the menu), these pies should not be confused with those you’d pick up at a takeout place. The crust is thin beyond thin; the toppings are sometimes unorthodox (fresh clams and ricotta), sometimes experimental (Asian duck and goat cheese). Since the entrées and pastas aren't among the stronger offerings, World Pie is ultimately geared toward snacking and casual bites.
