Julian Medina adds Yerba Buena Perry to the portfolio that already includes one of the best restaurants to open in 2009, the East Village’s Yerba Buena, as well as Toloache. Designer Welly Lai has gussied up the former Matador space to evoke fifties Havana (think Socialista but with a touch of modernity thanks to white leather banquettes, an Italian marble bar, etc.). As with Yerba Buena, the food is a mixture of Latin American and Spanish, and the cocktails incorporate Latin ingredients such as the restaurant’s namesake herb. Wines are from Spain, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, and California.

We live in a city full of small cheap-eats miracles,
including meatballs, noodles, and food trucks.
