Yomari’s Restaurant is almost more food cart than restaurant, and while this order-at-the counter joint might claim to specialize in Spanish and American cuisine, it actually has considerably global offerings. The menu—written in Spanish and English—touts paellas and stews, as well as American burgers and salads, but there are Cuban sandwiches, Latin American empanadas and chicken-stuffed potatoes, and even, perhaps most incongruously, Italian–style spaghetti marinara, too. It’s those stews that are Yomari’s big surprise. Served over buttery rice and red beans, the saucy, slow-cooked stew meat flakes off the bone with a touch of the fork, then melts in your mouth as soon as you chew. So far, the eatery remains an ethnic stronghold. In truth, let’s hope it remains a well-kept secret. — Andrew Sessa
