Profile

This venue is closed.

A bright and airy space on one of Madison Avenue's posh Upper East Side corners, Yura & Company seems like just the place to grab a scone or lunch-to-go before picking up the Saab at the garage and heading out to The Hamptons. Happily, they don't charge resort-town prices. Antique white tile floors, sky-high ceilings, and off-white beadboard accents surround the horseshoe of glass cases that contain this mainly take-out establishment's high-quality offerings. Among the changing array of prepared foods, punchy grain salads and vegetables steal the show: crisp and garlicky French beans tossed with earthy sautéed shiitakes; smoky grilled-corn salad with barley and scallions; and cashew rice with caramelized onions and raisins. Poached salmon with cucumbers and dill, a killer meat loaf, and roast chicken also satisfy. A short-order window set to the side offers breakfast and brunch fare to those who manage to snag a window seat and one of the handful of marble-topped café tables. Those headed to Montauk (or Central Park) can choose from the selection of baked goods, all made at Yura's Third Avenue and 93nd St. location and featured at her most elaborate location—a prepared-foods market and sit-down dining room—a block south of the bakery, on 92nd St.
