Profile
The dining room at Zlata Praha looks like a tourist restaurant in Prague, with a wealth of national costumes, ornamental plates, and pictures of the city lining the walls. Billed as the only Czech and Slovak restaurant in the city, it is as much an expat cultural center as it is a place for locals to experience Eastern European charm. Along with headcheese, homemade frankfurters, goulash, and fruit dumplings, a large selection of Czech books are listed on the menu, and Czech T-shirts and confectionaries are available at the bar. Be sure to show up hungry. The potato salad with boiled egg and caviar is on the slightly more delicate side, but you were meant to have ploughed fields all day before eating any of the entrees. Pork schnitzel wrapped in a potato pancake is a must, as is the stuffed cabbage in tomato sauce. Save yourself some airfare: The food here is authentic, flavorful, and much better than any of the more touristy places in Prague itself.
BarThe kitchen closes at 11 p.m., but you can drink pivo until 4 a.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 a.m. other nights.
