Profile
20/20 Eyewear is where to go when you want specs that truly make a fashion statement. The chain carries some of the most surprisingly stylish and unique frames around, and, as if to prove it, each store hang huge portraits of four-eyed icons of American style. (Downtown it's Audrey Hepburn, uptown James Dean.) 20/20 is a full-service eyewear operation, too, with optometrists available by appointment to test vision and advise on glasses or contacts. Interestingly, the staff is involved with the design of some frames. An order will take from one to three days, and new frames come in constantly. Styles are available from all the major labels—Chanel, Gucci, Paul Smith, and Ralph Lauren—and from noted frame designers like Alain Mikli and Oliver Peoples. The in-house 20/20 label features unique plastic frames, many with rhinestone details that are, surprisingly, quite nice-looking, and nothing like what Dame Edna wears. Also available is custom rhinestone work, and a limited selection of vintage and children’s frames.
