In 1979, when the commercial juggernaut that is “Soho” barely existed, painter Patti Paige needed to find a better source of bread-and-butter income than teaching to supplement her fine-artist’s earnings. Armed with her grandmother’s recipes and her copious creative skills, Paige decided on beautiful, custom-designed cookies, through which she would translate her clients' ideas into edible art. The cookies may be basic—sugar cookies, shortbread, straightforward vanilla and chocolate—but they’re a very tasty canvas. Paige’s art takes on many forms, from portraits to architecture, pocketbooks to Manolos, and teapots to cartoon characters. For cookie-loving brides and grooms, she’ll even craft an entire wedding cake out of cookies. The focus is always on creating a unique and personalized confection that fits the occasion. Icing artwork ranges from simple line drawings of flowers to amazing architectural detail and stunning watercolor reproductions of fine art. Baked Ideas can also package cookies in ribbon-festooned cellophane as party favors—or as tasty invitation to an upcoming event, carefully wrapped and suitable for mailing.Extra
Baked Ideas also produces parties at which children and adults can bake and decorate their own gingerbread structures, cookies, or cakes; call the shop for details.
