Nestled amid the furniture emporiums of Greene Street is a lingerie shop geared toward design of a more intimate nature, an erotic version of Eres or La Perla carrying beautiful lace bras, nighties, and peek-a-boo panties alongside a host of toys. But just as the high-minded name implies (the real Kiki was artist Man Ray’s muse in the 1940s), this 2,000-square-foot flagship is not your average sex shop. In addition to dozens of vibrators (a.k.a. “instruments of pleasure”), half of the store is a veritable gallery with rotating exhibitions and photographs for sale. Even those totally turned off by the word “bondage” will find something that caters to their vanilla tastes: signature body creams and massage oils or a set of silk sheets perhaps. The more adventurous will go for the golden handcuffs. The more timid will at least find an eyeful to talk about.
Kiki de Montparnasse has something for every bride—from the mild to the wild. For lacy panties and bedroom toys, this luxury intimates-and-bath company can outfit wedding nights, the honeymoon, and any day thereafter. Their best seller: a trademark tuxedo panty ($175).
