A Détacher owner Mona Kowalska likens herself to more of a curator than a designer or store manager—not surprising, since her teacup-sized space is more of a funky fashion gallery than the cold couture boutique you might expect. Kowalska’s collection appeases grown-up fashion hounds and readers of Vogue or W. Kowalska doesn’t apologize for the luxury and architecture her prim clothes exude, but while her elegant designs snub schlepped-in comfort, she fully embraces the eclectic with the mod furnishings dotted throughout her store. At the back of the shop, a mirror tile wall hangs behind a glass façade etched with distressed scribbles.
