ABC Carpet & Home
|
This store-within-a-store on the first floor of ABC Carpet & Home brings together a wealth of green and socially responsible home goods emphasizing organic materials and indigenous design. The whitewashed, warmly lit space is filled with products ranging from vegetable-dyed, hand-block-printed cotton linens made by women in Rajasthan, India, to organic pineapple-fiber and silk room dividers hand-loomed by women in the Philippines. Placards with details on the materials and makers of each item dangle from the high ceilings. There are hand-embroidered pillows from Bedouins in Israel, Ethiopian table runners, sustainably grown bamboo-and-cotton towels, nightgowns made with low-ecoimpact dyes, and air purifiers tailored to eliminate toxins. A back room contains chemical-free organic mattresses that are exclusive to the store in the tri-state area. There’s also a section of smaller, more affordable products, such as candles, Pangea organic bar soap, and nontoxic Priti nail polish.
