Although Acne is probably most famous for its denim, the Stockholm-based company is actually a creative collective that produces music videos, films, and a twice-yearly arts magazine called Acne Paper. Indeed, the Soho location looks like a minimalist-art installation, with giant geometric mirrors near its entrance and one wall covered with oversized glass doorknobs, but the only business here is selling basic, functional clothing for both sexes: cotton T-shirts, cleanly tailored button-downs, cardigans, chinos, and of course, the label’s signature slim-fitting blue jeans (around $250 a pair). Acne also carries women’s pumps and flats and men's leather dress shoes; a collaboration with Swedish shoemaker Tretorn has resulted in a line of fashion-forward tennis shoes at around $250 a pop. — Rachel Corbett
