Profile
Opened in 2004, Acorn sells well-designed, battery-free toys intended to spark a child’s imagination. Handmade items abound, including Waldorf dolls with simple button features, New York–based Woven Play’s costumes made from vintage fabrics, and one-of-a-kind leather boots. The store itself has an organic atmosphere, with a wooden floor, green back wall, and tree trunk–shaped desk at checkout. Wooden items are a store specialty and include construction sets for dollhouses and pirate ships, kick-powered LikeABikes, and German brand Ostheimer’s coveted animal figurines. Some pieces are made to order, like Ida Pearle’s name-based wall art and Lucy & Michael full-sized tepees in customizable prints.
