You will need an appointment to pet the scores of chenille, mink, lamb, sable, and sheared mink coats that line the long walls of this family-owned enterprise overlooking “Fashion Avenue.” Though most of the coats in the Chelsea space are classic in form, the careful observer will also find some edgier styles sporting higher hemlines and deconstructed patterns. As much as 90 percent of the merchandise is created on site (in an area well hidden, of course, from the immaculate showroom) as part of the store's own "EKSO" line. The showroom farms out some of this inventory to a retail-only outpost on the Upper East Side (also appointment-only). With prices ranging up to nearly six figures, it’s unlikely the stylish thirtysomethings who shop both locations tuck their furs in the back of the closet come the sweltering heat of summer; surely, while they’re summering in the Hamptons, their furs keep cool in Alexandros’ climate-controlled vaults.
