New York–based designer Alice Roi showcases her elegant, vintage-inspired clothing in this roomy shop. Photos of glam models and precocious little girls are pinned haphazardly to the walls, and a large white sign bearing Roi’s “AR” logo hangs in back. Thinly filled racks display pieces from Roi’s previous collections, including slinky silk sheaths with prim white collars, fitted cropped jackets, drapey skirts embellished with buttons and clever pockets, and glossy crêpe jersey dresses in caramel and cream. Most of the clothes stick to a controlled palette of white, black, and shades of gray, emphasizing clean lines and impeccable tailoring. Roi deftly implements a subtle ruffle, scalloped edge, or a bit of lace in many of her designs, giving them an underlying sense of femininity without sacrificing sophistication. The looks are polished but playful at times, like a set of curve-hugging wool dresses with “Hi” spelled in dainty lace across the chests. Hop over a neon pink and orange bench to cross into the candy-colored world of Sarah Luna—the two designers share the divided space for their adjacent boutiques.
