The first of Alkit's three Manhattan locations, the no-frills, no-nonsense Midtown West shop is brimming with top-of-the-line cameras and accessories, most from big brands like Olympus, Nikon and the perennially popular Canon ELPH line. The display shelves are also stocked with reams of inkjet paper and stacks of printer cartridges, as well as dozens of affordable frames in various sizes and patterns, and photo albums covered in everything from sleek leather to ivory brocade. Alkit offers one-hour processing for photographers loyal to 35mm, while digital picture-takers can have prints made by 5pm on the next business day. Customers can also help themselves to the store’s photo scanner to create their own picture-from-picture prints. As avid photo hobbyists themselves, the staff addresses customers' questions with well-researched product savvy, and if your camera breaks and troubleshooting guides are causing more confusion than assistance, they’re happy to send it to the manufacturer for repair.
