They are cute in pet stores but they are all from puppy mills which cage their parents in 6'x6' cages for breeding & breeding only. It is extremely inhumane b/c the parent dogs do not get medical attention and only get the bare min. of food & shelter. Cages are stacked outdoor no matter it is 100F or minus 15F outside. Once they can no longer breed, they are put down. We already have so many homeless pets dying in shelters. Pls dont perpetual the problem by buying puppies or even supplies from pets store, especially American Kennels. The staff is nasty when you ask them more detailed questions about where the puppies come from and whether you can contact the breeders. The staff immediately clam up and become so rude that you know immediately something is fishy going on.
Their puppies come from puppy mills. Stop in and ask them whether the puppies come from mass-breeding facilities in the Midwest, where the breeding dogs live in cages for their entire lives. Of course they;ll say no and will point out how cute and "high quality" the puppies are. Ask to see the puppies'; papers--they are from USDA kennels, in Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma--also known as puppy mills. Can they SHOW you anything other than paper? Do you realize that AKC papers are just that--paper, and that it is no guarantee of a dog's health, or how it was raised. AKC representatives are present at dog auctions, the most despicable aspect of the puppy mill industry. "Home raised." Whatever. Unless the breeder lives in the dog buildings, it's just not true.
