Welcome to the Wild West—well, a fashionable meatpacking-district version of the West. Tapping turn-of-the-century industrialism for inspiration, An Earnest Cut & Sew is a modern denim emporium. Their signature men’s and women’s jeans are $185 to $240 off the rack, but their famous custom denim service lets you choose from a selection of fits, thread colors, pocket shapes, and limited-edition fabrics (American, Japanese, and Turkish denim) for anywhere between $500 and $900. Beyond all things indigo, button-down shirts, Santa Maria Novella fragrances, and Malin + Goetz hair-care products are piled on top of antique letterpresses and leather club chairs. Shiny cruisers by Jorg & Olif Bicycles lean casually against the brick walls. Realizing how exhausting the search for a new pair of jeans can be, the kind proprietors have provided a small bar in the back of the Washington St. store that serves complimentary tea, coffee, and soda to customers weary from the most difficult of denim decisions. — Katie Hintz
