After eleven years in Chelsea, Angel Street Thrift opened this offshoot in Greenpoint in 2008. At 10,000 square feet, the new space dwarfs the old, and while the inventory of both stores is largely the same, director Patrick McKeon describes the newer location as the more fashion-forward of the two. Low walls divide the space into retail and warehouse areas. Bargain-hunters will find dozens of racks devoted to used designer duds from names like Ralph Lauren and Vivienne Westwood, vintage clothing and accessories such as scarves and handbags, contemporary furniture styles, housewares, and books. The cavernous, 7,000-square-foot warehouse area is where donations from Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens are distributed and sorted; clothing can be dropped off anytime during store hours, and a pick-up service is offered any day of the week from 9 to 3 for furniture and large items. Proceeds benefit charities helping those affected by substance abuse, HIV, and mental illness.
