In 2009, Anna McCraney won Bravo’s Project Runway-esque reality series The Fashion Show and the prize money enabled her to launch her own womenswear label, Annabelle by Anna McCraney, which is headquartered in this Lower East Side storefront. The bright space is made welcoming with framed art from a rotating ensemble of contemporary artists (all the pieces are for sale), embellished wallpaper, and Mabel, the designer’s stocky French bulldog roaming about. It’s filled with McCraney’s vibrantly colored dresses, tops, jackets, and skirts, all of which have understated structures and are made with high-quality fabric. Body-flattering bestsellers include a strapless dress made from Ikat fabric, a high-waisted pencil skirt, and a floaty silk racerback tank. She also stocks chic basics by LA Made, womenswear by Gar-de, Osborne shoes, and chunky brass jewelry from K/ller Collection.
