Before achieving cult status with her “I'm not a plastic bag” canvas tote (now out of production), Anya Hindmarch already had built a loyal following for timeless leather accessories. Cheek by jowl with some of fashion’s biggest names on East 60th Street (Calvin Klein, Barneys, Bottega Veneta) and in Soho (Jill Stuart, Miu Miu, Intermix), Hindmarch’s twin boutiques are pint-sized but well-stocked. Though shoes clutter the floor and knits and coats fill the racks, the handbags neatly lining the shelves command all the attention. The seasonally rotating collection ranges from hobos embellished with gold accents to metallic clutches. Signature pieces, like the made-to-order Bespoke Ebury bag in calf or crocodile skin, are always available. Customers also can insert personalized quotes and initials inside many bags to make them truly one-of-a-kind. — Alexis Brunswick
