Since 1990, this out-of-the-way storefront on the second floor of South Street Seaport's bustling Pier 17 mall has specialized in custom embroidery. The interior—a staff sewing area separated from the entrance by a crescent-shaped counter—is a little cramped, but no matter: these days, most of the store's customers are small businesses and organizations (think restaurants, hotels, sports teams) that place orders for customized logos through the store’s website. (AT&T, the New York Transit Authority, and The Daily Show are all on the client roster). Still, some prefer to visit in person and thumb through design catalogs featuring over 25,000 stock designs and 40 fonts. Customers can bring in their own garments for embellishment, or just as easily choose from an inventory of basic hats, T-shirts, and jackets. The shop owners pride themselves on their quick turnaround (a simple job can take as little as 15 minutes) and on having no minimum purchase requirements.
